Britons may avoid vision loss by eating more salmon, sardines, and mackerel, due to a chemical in these types of fish according to a Louisiana State University (LSU) study.
LSU Professor Nicolas Bazan, the U.S. study’s lead author, said that omega-3 fatty acid DHA found in oily fish supports preconditioning protection. This condition allows different retinal cell types to endure stress, including a constricted flow of blood supply.
Loss of eyesight occurs when retina damage results in macular degeneration, which then affects our reading and writing skills, as well as being able to see colours. The study based its findings on laboratory tests that involved the exposure of human eye cells to constant light. It showed that these endured damages due to enough Omega-3 supplements.
